Dr Ian Bedford leads the entomology department at the John Innes Centre. A good number of members braved the cold February weather to hear a very interesting talk about butterflies and moths. It was striking how many of the issues facing butterflies are very similar to those facing our bees, such as loss of suitable habitat/food and pesticide problems. Ian spoke of the decline of some of our common butterflies and gave suggestions of plants to help the adults as well as food plants for the caterpillars.
