The first outdoor event of the season was kindly hosted by Mike Thurlow. We were blessed with a mild day so the bees were flying. The apiary is Mike’s ‘sick bay’ where he nurses colonies back to health. As such, a lot was gained from seeing colonies with various problems, with various solutions discussed. It was good to see a number of people just starting out on there beekeeping life. Of interest to those of us who have kept bees a little longer was Mike’s use of insulation and woodpecker protection; food for thought. Many thanks go to Mike.
